Latest News About the Floods in the UAE

Thursday-18-April-2024 {HMC} The authorities and people of the United Arab Emirates are cleaning up the rubble caused by heavy rains that killed at least one person and damaged houses and businesses.

254 mm of rain fell in the United Arab Emirates, according to the National Meteorological Center.

It was the heaviest rainfall since rain gauge records began in 1949, before the country was founded in 1971.

Although the torrential rain eased on Tuesday afternoon, the chaos it caused continued on Wednesday, with Emirates airline suspending flights at Dubai airport until midnight tonight.

Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest, said it faced major disruptions after heavy rains delayed or diverted flights and affected flight crews.

Passengers departing from Dubai have been advised not to go to the airport and check the status of their flight with the airline they booked their ticket for.

“We are working hard to recover and resume operations as soon as possible, despite this very difficult situation,” the airport management wrote on X.

Emirates said that passengers who had already stopped at the airport and were leaving for other countries would be helped but warned to expect delays.

The Dubai airport website shows departure and arrival flights with some delays of up to hours.

Local media reported that an Emirati man aged 70 died on Tuesday after his car was swept away by the flood in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

In Oman, which is a neighbor of the UAE, 19 people, including school children, died in the flood after three days of heavy rains, as reported by Omani media.
